Take Action on Colarusso's Mining Expansion Permit Application
A. Colarusso and Son proposes to expand an existing permitted limestone quarry on Becraft Mountain. The project site is located on the east side of Newman Road, south of NYS Route 23B in the Town of Greenport, Columbia County.
A Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) has been deemed complete and issued for Public Comment.
The project site is on land leased from the City of Hudson. The property contains a reservoir that is Hudson's back-up water supply.
Write the DEC today for an extension to the Public Comment Period and to express your concerns with this proposal.
Friends of Hudson has identified several issues of concern:
Potential impacts on the City of Hudson's Back-Up Water Supply
Fugitive dust and small particualtes
Vibrations and noise from blasting affecting nearby homes, historic buildings, and other structures in Hudson, Greenport & Claverack
Potential of increased truck traffic
Visual and physical impacts on the landscape as a result of mining activity
